Gallerie dell’Accademia
Immerse yourself in world-famous masterpieces at the Galleria dell’Academia. Created in 1784, it has truly lived up to its original purpose as a place of study for art students, and helped to transform Florence into one of the art capitals of the world. Within the gallery there is a conservatory of music and the extraordinary school of art restoration. It houses some of the world’s most famous art pieces, such as the original David by Michelangelo.

The David was moved the gallery in 1873, due to “atmospheric pollutants” (people would throw stones and try to take chunks of marble from the statue).
